Scientist I – Assay Development

Sunnyvale, CA

We are seeking a talented and motivated Scientist with expertise in biochemical assay development to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team. This key role focuses on immunoassay technology design for Fluxus’ groundbreaking ultrasensitive detection platform.  As an Assay Development Scientist, you will work closely with the Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality teams to optimize and improve diagnostic-grade immunoassay technology, expand the core test portfolio, and provide technical support for regulatory submissions and product launches.

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • Strong technical expertise in analytical biochemistry and immunoassay development – preferably in clinical diagnostic industry
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment and keeping current with new developments in the field
  • Experience with In Vitro diagnostic assay development strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • 100% on site role.
  • Apply a variety of scientific concepts and experimental approaches for the design and development of diagnostic-grade ultrasensitive immunoassays for Fluxus’ optofluidic single molecule counting platform.
  • Use advanced biochemical and biophysical techniques to evaluate new assay technologies and screen critical reagents – including molecular binding kinetics, mechanisms of action, functional protein assays, protein labeling, purification & characterization of proteins and other biomolecules; PCR transfection and cell culture.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct independent experiments in collaboration with the principal investigator.
  • Design, test, and evaluate methods and protocols.
  • Analyze, summarize, and organize collected data.
  • Author reports & project-related documents; summarize and present scientific results.
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to enable project progression.
  • Actively participate in the design control process and support Operations with tech transfer to manufacturing scale.
  • Participate in the routine operations of the laboratory.
  • Provide direction to Research Associates and potentially train junior personnel.
  • Recommend the purchase of new equipment.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies.

Preferred Qualifications & Critical Attributes:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Cell or Molecular Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline, with 2  years of experience.
  • Or master’s degree (MS) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in immunoassay development including:
    • Reagents and assay development & optimization
    • Technical migration to automated platforms
    • Upscaling & transfer to manufacturing
    • Use of statistical methods
    • Writing and execution of validation protocols
  • Hands-on expertise in fluorescence-based assay systems, including but not limited to FRET, fluorescence nanoparticle, fluorescence imaging, and labeled antibodies.
  • Strong skills in interpreting fluorescence signals and optimizing fluorescence-based readouts are highly desirable
  • Familiarity with chemistry of raw materials used for immunoassays.
  • Experience with ultrasensitive and microfluidics platforms (assay-on-a-chip preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of ELISA, MSD, SIMOA, Gyrolab technologies and ability to troubleshoot a variety of issues.
  • Expertise in handling, analyzing and visualizing assay data sets using statistical tools and proficiency with software platforms such as GraphPad Prism, MedCalc, Minitab, etc.
